I’m looking at moving the Podcast studio computers permanently to Ubuntu Linux.

I’m currently running the studio systems on USB key installs of Ubuntu. So far everything seems to be working well. I’ll be testing the recording software over the next few days and will be recording this weeks XTN on Ubuntu. Still deciding if I should use a Windows backup recorder just in case, and that probably won’t be a silly idea really.

Still have a little issue with the Linux blogging clients. I use Windows Live Writer which for a Microsoft application works really well in conjunction with WordPress. Also, I used iTunes to write the ID3 tags and insert album art so I’m also going to be playing with the ID3 tag editors under Linux.

I’m writing this on Lekhonee which is a gnome WordPress client. Anyway, all going well this time in a couple of weeks all the systems will be re-installed with Ubuntu.

If anyone is running Linux software for podcast production, I’d love to hear what software you use.

Once I get everything sorted on the Linux side, I’ll post a writeup with what I decide to use software wise.

The post is brought to you by lekhonee v0.7

Well, @blubrry have done it again. The team at blubrry have superseded all expectations once again.

I’m one of the lucky ones who get to test Powerpress 1.0.0beta before it’s official release and what can I say. There are some really cool new features and the layout is just awesome.

The powerpress podcast plugin has just taken WordPress Podcasting to the next level.

Angelo has done an excellent job with the new features, I think alot of people will be scrambling to migrate to Powerpress 1.0 when it is released.

I’ve installed the new Beta of Powerpress on this site and my other business / primary podcast sites.

While I’m not sure if I’m going to be using the Premium Content Feed capabilities initially, it’s nice to be able to have the option for the future. Especially with one of my podcasts, I can see the benefit of “premium content” in the future.

What else can I say, If you’re looking at setting up a podcast on WordPress, or you already have a podcast setup with WordPress, You’d be silly not to at least give Powerpress 1.0 a look in when it is released.

No other WordPress podcast plugin is evolving as fast as Powerpress. The support from the @blubrry team is outstanding.

For those that are hell bent on the likes of Podpress or Podcasting, I think you’ll be impressed with Powerpress 1.0

Well, as you know. I have been a little, ok a lot slack when it comes to my personal podcast.

This is a short episode which lasts around 7 minutes

In this episode I talk a little about procrastinating and why one shouldn’t do it. Being new to the whole podcast production thing and I also talk about a Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club charity ride which happened on the weekend of 30th of August 2009 and the way TVNZ mis-reported what the ride was about and claimed it to be a Protest ride. I also include a bit about the NZ Motor Cycle Cruiser Group (NZMCCG)

This is completely off the cuff and no real planning went into it, so I apologise in advance I am confident things will start to get better from here on in with my Podcast.

You can visit the NZMCCG Website @ http://www.nzcruisergroup.co.nz if your a New Zealand Motor Cycle Cruiser rider and are looking for a great group of people to ride with.

I will be putting more planning in to future content and podcasts for my personal blog site If you have listened to this episode, I thank you.

Ok, So I setup a podcast on a business website of ours. I found what I thought was a great plugin for WordPress which in turn I liked.

Ok, So I setup a podcast on a business website of ours. I found what I thought was a great plugin for WordPress which in turn I liked. It had nice setup features and good player placement customization.

I then started to think, maybe some of the others are better.

I initially had PodPress installed and yes, it’s a great plugin for podcasting. However it hasn’t been updated since 2007. I like it’s ability to have custom player placement within the post but as I said, It’s development seems to have stopped in it’s tracks.

So, It works well, I like it. Why not keep it.

I figured something that is still in development is probably better than something that’s not. Or at least for me anyway.

I actually found 3 plugins worthy of running with WordPress. There are probably many more.

PodPress

Nice plugin. The only thing it lacks is development. It’s a little behind the times as far as iTunes goes. It’s not a killer for the plugin, however iTunes have increased keywords and image sizes.. It also still has the Yahoo Podcast directory in it, which doesn’t exist anymore.

PodCasting

Again, this is a nice plugin and works very well. The only limitation I found with this one was the lack of configuration. The ability to place the player anywhere in the post as with PodPress does have it’s advantages. And I could even post mp3 files directly with Windows Live Writer using their wordpress shortcode to enclose the mp3 file with out having to go to the site to do it manually. But the lack of configuration for it, I was leaning towards PodPress still as my preferred podcast plugin.

Powerpress

Well, This one I had seen, and looked at a while ago, While doing the comparison I was informed on twitter by @blubrry to include their Powerpress. So I did.

It pretty much has the same functionality as PodPress. Although at this stage it does lack the player placement shortcode. Having said that, as this is close to PodPress and it is being developed. And even better their development (or twiiter guy/girl) team is atleast open to suggestions for future releases. It just may be a possibility to get a post short code in place so we can chose the player placement in the post.

So, all in all. I chose to go with Powerpress. For the reason that it was easy to convert from PodPress, It’s import tools worked great, and as I said. The fact it’s actively being developed is a big draw card.

So what should you use. Well, Only you can answer that question. Hell are you really going to take the advice of some chick in some little country that you’ve probably never heard of.

All I can really suggest, is try them all, and see what suits your needs best. However, I would recommend PowerPress.

And yes, I will get around to recording another podcast episode

Episode 1 – General Crap

Ok, Well. Why a podcast you ask.

I figured it was the next progression in My Insignificant Little Web Space. My blogging is lacking at the best of times. heck, My twitter updates beat me two weeks in a row..

Yes, I guess twitter is a form of blogging. But I think my blog needs a push.

I tend to have those “oh I should blog that” moments when I’m not in front of the PC or Laptop. And, well. By the time I am in front of a computer I have probably forgotten half of what I was going to type. So I figured well, maybe if I record podcast snippets and paste them together I can post an episode of my blog and then create a summary in a blog entry.

Sort of like what I am doing now I guess. I hope that my podcast episodes don’t bore you to death to much. Hell, this one is about nothing, ok, well it does include a comment about the latest EziBuy Catalogue and my wardrobe but that’s pretty much it.

I promise the next episode will be a lot more fun and entertaining. I might even try and rope some friends in to future episodes.. hahahah, I’m sure they’ll love me now.

If you do listen, Thanks.. and as I said at the end of the episode, feel free to leave a comment. Not that there’s much to comment on.
