Draconian ACC Levy on motorcyclists

Posted under Rant & Rave by Kimberly on Wednesday 14 October 2009 at 10:43 pm UTC

This is a sure fire way to have 21000 bikers lobbying furiously at the next election.

ACC’s proposal today to increase motorcycle registrations as part of arise in levies is a disgrace.

All motorcycles currently pay $252.69 in levies. Under the changes,

126-600cc bikes will increase from $252.69 to $511.43;
601+ cc increases to $745.77;

if you drive a moped, you’re screwed – currently $59 but you will pay $257.58 a year.

And ACC’s argument? Motorcyclists are 16 times more likely than car drivers to be involved in accidents.

They seem to have forgotten or just blatantly ignored the fact that it is, in most cases the car drivers that hit the motorcyclists because they are either just dumb, ignorant or too busy talking on their bloody cell phone.

If we’re going to start levying the CC rating of motor cycles, why not kick these boy racers with their performance cars too. This is a joke New Zealand. And pure daylight robbery.

The NZMCCG members are currently drafting a petition and possibly a ride down to wellington to make our thoughts heard on this. I will post info as I get the info but keep an eye on the NZMCCG Blog or the NZMCCG forums if your a member of the site.

Come on Kiwi Riders, we cannot do what New Zealand is good at and be a lemming. We need to make our voices heard on this.

Robbed tourists view of NZ saved by Good Samaritan

rusty180 This country really has some scum bags in it. Fortunately there are still some people around who give a damn. If you know the man in the Photo on the right. Call the police and tell them of his whereabouts.

I was disgusted to see this story on the news. I honestly hope NZ will help catch this prick. I know the country is too P.C. to let the tourists have a “go” at him. But the idiot deserves everything he gets.

Two American tourists have been left high and dry after a New Zealand man they thought was their friend stole their car and left them stranded with nothing else but the clothes they were wearing. But believe it or not, the pair say the experience has introduced them to the best of Kiwi hospitality.

Kiwi’s and Aliens

Posted under General by Kimberly on Friday 19 December 2008 at 1:30 pm UTC

Ok, This made me laugh. It may offend some aussies, but then as a kiwi girl. I have no problem with that. :D

There was a Kiwi bloke on earth doing the Haka. Somewhere in space, Aliens were watching this unusual dance. “Ka-mate, ka-mate, ka-ora, ka-ora..” The Aliens were very interested and they wanted to see what would happen if they took a part of his brain away without him knowing. So with their alien technology they sent a laser beam down that hit the Kiwi’s head and took a part of his brain away. The Aliens then sat back to see what would happen. “Ka-mate, ka-mate, ka-ora, ka-ora..” What the??? The Aliens were amazed at what they saw. The Kiwi guy could operate with less than a full brain. So they decided to send the beam down and take another part of his brain. The Aliens watched on. “Ka-mate, ka-mate, ka-ora, ka-ora..”

“WHAT!!” the Aliens said to each other.”These Kiwis are very clever people even with half a brain. Let’s see what happens if we take the rest away and leave him with no brain at all!” So with a push of a button the Aliens sent the beam down and took away the final part of the Kiwi’s brain. “Now surely he won’t know anything at all. He should be too dumb and stupid to do anything now?”And sure enough, with no brain and no knowledge of anything at all the Aliens watched on as the bloke sang “WALTZING MATILDA, WALTZING MATILDA..”

National Library Harvesting Websites

National Library of New Zealand The 2008 Domain Harvest

During October 2008 the Library will perform a large-scale harvest of the New Zealand internet. We will do this using a ‘web crawler’ to find and download web pages.

The domain harvest will attempt to acquire every publicly accessible website that falls under the nz country code, as well as certain other websites that are owned by New Zealanders or legally considered New Zealand publications.

The internet is always changing, and uses a myriad of technologies, so it is impossible to make a perfect copy. Despite this, we are hoping to harvest 100 million URLs during October 2008, giving us a snapshot of the internet at that time.

The harvested web pages will be stored at the Library, and will eventually be made publicly accessible

View the page @ http://www.natlib.govt.nz/about-us/current-initiatives/web-harvest-2008

Ok, Normally having a site indexed is not an issue. It’s how we find things. But when you blatantly ignore the robots.txt I have an issue. I don’t know about others, but I purposely add files / directories into the robots file so they are _not_ indexed/archived.

Needless to say, Did we get any warning at all that our Web servers were going to be put under huge load from their bloody robot. I don’t recall seeing anything anywhere.. I found the page about from a log entry on my server. (While trying to figure out why the load was so high)

Be warned NZ.. even if you have disclaimers stating the content may not be archived or have files/directories in robots.txt you don’t have indexed/archived on Google etc.. This will blatantly ignore those entries and both index and archive your site.

100% Not Yours

I had to laugh when I saw the two mock ads that came out of a couple of Australian advertising agencies trying to win a TV show competition trying to convince the Australian public as to why they should invade New Zealand.

Personally I liked the one from 303 as it had some nice shots of NZ, though the one from Marmalade did promise a holiday. :D

I’m not sure how long they will be up but you can see the two ads Here.
