Testing Word 2007 blog publishing

Posted under Technology by Kimberly on Friday 30 January 2009 at 3:15 pm UTC

Ok, so I finally upgraded my old Office XP to Office 2007 J Have to admit, I am impressed so far.

It is taking a little bit to get use to the new look of Office compared to my old XP. Anyway I thought I’d try the Blog ability from Word 2007 to see how well it works with WordPress.

All going well this should look ok.

Ok, Just editing with Windows Live Writer. Not sure how / if I can add to specific categories or add tags yet.. But it does seem to work ok for basics.

Logitech v450 nano stopped before my other mice

Posted under Technology by Kimberly on Wednesday 28 January 2009 at 10:31 pm UTC

logitech-v450 Ok, I’m a bit peeved off. My Logitech v450 nano mouse receiver seems to have given up the ghost. I got it for Christmas 2007, so it isn’t that old.

I was using my lappy with mouse working great, then shut it down, came back and turned it about 20 minutes later and my mouse cursor didn’t move when I moved the mouse.

Initially I thought, oh great. My USB is dead. So I unplugged the nano receiver and plugged in my USB pen drive which worked, so It can’t be a dead usb port. Still on the maybe the port is dodgy, I tried the receiver in another usb port, but still no luck.

My lappy makes no sound at all when the receiver is plugged in or unplugged. So I can only assume the receiver is as dead as the dodo bird.

The slogon I’ve seen that "It keeps going where other mice have stopped" doesn’t really ring true in my case. My trusty corded mice are still going

It was a brilliant mouse too. The programmable buttons / scroll wheel was great. It’s just a shame it didn’t out last my other mouse.

Our last few days as Tourists

Posted under General by Kimberly on Monday 26 January 2009 at 5:56 pm UTC

Well, We are home again.. Yay.. It is good to be back home.

We had an awesome time in Auckland, but a week is more than enough time there. :) We went to Motat on Thursday and spent a bit of time looking around. It was interesting playing with the old phones and watching how the old telephone exchanges worked. 5 Minutes to just get connected to a number though would’ve annoyed the heck out of me. :)

MOTAT Tram Hoped on a tram to go see Motat 2, Was a little disappointed with the second bit of Motat. There were no Army stuff out, though we got to see some planes.

Friday we went and got some culture from the Museum, had lunch with Mum and did some other stuff, then got caught up in the shooting when the police closed off all the motorway on ramps. So driving back to the North Shore was a frustrating experience. What should’ve taken us less than 30 minutes took well over an hour and a half. Now I know why I don’t want to ever live in Auckland again.

kim orewa beach Saturday and we’re off to Orewa beach, It was an awesome afternoon. Very hot though, even mum’s poor van started having some over heating issues, hopefully it’s nothing to serious.

The water was so lovely though. It was pretty busy and the the IRB crew looked like they went for a few joy rides to kill their boredom. I guess, at least they weren’t having to pull people to safety.

We left Auckland on Sunday doing a detour through Pirongia to see our Friends, Mari and Brendon. We had a lovely lunch and 4 hour break, which got us out of the heat of the day. It was 28 degrees when we arrived and it just got hotter. So being in a nice Air conditioned house was great.  So thank you Mari and Brendon for an excellent afternoon.

We stopped in Ohakune on the way home to fill up and have a drink. We were going to have KFC in Taihape for tea, but with everyone coming Ohakune 004back from the A1GP in Taupo, it was really busy. We decided to carry on home and get KFC in Palmy.

Well, I guess it’s back to reality and time to start working again. We decided as we came from Auckland and today is their Anniversary day, we would take today as a holiday / recovery day. :)

Tourists in Auckland

North Head Well, We are in Auckland for a week having a holiday. We are doing more touristy type things this time. We went up to North Head to have a look around. Got absolutely drenched thanks to typical Auckland weather. When it rains it really pours down. :)

Went to Kelly Tarltons underwater world, I was a little disappointed considering the cost to get in, but we had fun. Went on their Snow Cat and saw some gorgeous and very large penguins. We got to see some awesome sized stingrays up close.

It would’ve been nice if Kelly Tarltons had more info on what fish / crustaceans were in each tank but all in all, it was a great day.

We’re visiting Motat on Thursday and then the Museum on Friday. As of yet, I’m not sure what we are up to on Saturday, Might be a trip up to Orewa beach for the day to enjoy some sun, sand and surf.. (ok, so Orewa isn’t a surf beach. but not to worry).

Over the next few days, I think I need to start getting more button happy on the Camera. :)

Loving this weather

Posted under General by Kimberly on Thursday 8 January 2009 at 6:38 pm UTC

090220083 Well, Have just spent the day basking in the sun and spent a few hours in the pool.

This is what summer is all about. I’m so loving this weather. Beautiful sunshine, hot temperatures and a pool. What more can a girl want. Ok, well a glass of wine after we got out and vege’d out by the pool would’ve capped the afternoon off nicely. But hey, It was an awesome afternoon none the less.

One can only hope it stays like this for some time to come, so we can spend more time by / in the pool. Looking forward to having a BBQ on the weekend

If you’re outside, remember to slip, slop and slap.. Remember, the only thing that looks good pink is a pig… :D

Upgrading Bluequartz/CentOS to PHP5

Posted under Technology by Kimberly on Monday 5 January 2009 at 2:07 pm UTC

Well, I have just upgraded my Bluequartz CentOS server to PHP5 while retaining PHP4 for the BQ Admin Server.

You don’t need to spend money on a Package that does what you can do for free. I followed the HowTo at http://www.osoffice.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=368 and it appears to be working very well.

As a bonus It upgraded Apache, MySQL and PostgreSQL and Perl along with PHP5 but retaining PHP4 for the admin section.

A new year here already

Posted under General by Kimberly on Saturday 3 January 2009 at 4:06 pm UTC

kimberly well, I guess Welcome to the new year. It’s hard to believe it’s 2009, it seems like it wasn’t that long ago we were all waiting for the Y2k bug to hit with a vengeance at the end of ’99. 9 years later and I’m still waiting. What’s even scarier 2010 was so Sci Fi when I was born. hahaha.

I hope every one had fun on New Years Eve. We went into the Square in Palmy. There was great entertainment, even with the couple of heavy rain showers which made things a little damp. We had a great evening.

There were some very cold looking girls there though, It always surprises me why people don’t take warm clothing when you know it’s going to get chilly. All in the name of getting a shag huh.. :D

Shaun Preston was awesome on stage performing Elton John, Kings of Leon and others, songs.

The sound system I think was much better than last year and I would’ve loved to have heard strike again, but the entertainment that was put on was great.

Someone (hmm. that’d be me) forgot to take a camera though. :( My cell phone camera isn’t that great in low to no light. So I didn’t get any photo’s worth keeping unfortunately. But we learn from out mistakes. Just like not taking a cushion to sit on, My arse was sore for 2 days. Next time we are so taking some folding chairs to park on. :)

I hope everyone has a great 2009.
