Hi Matt,
I don't have the 4315 with the webcam built in so I am unsure of the driver that you'll need for it. You may be able to download one from the Acer support website. Chicony Camera Driver v5.7.26.400 maybe the one you are looking for. Have a look around at the drivers and downloads at http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal20.cfm?website=AcerPanAm.com&siteid=7117&areaid=2&formid=3394#results

Hi Kimberley

I am having problems with a few devices but the main one I am concerned with is my webcam. I've since installed an external but its not up to much. I'd much prefer to be able to use the Crystal One integrated into my 4315. Please can you tell me which of the drivers listed above will resolve this issue for me?
Thanks in advance for your any help you can provide and well done on such a nice blog. Consider yourself bookmarked!

Hi FrancesL,

I had to setup my bios to ide to get Windows XP to see the drive properly. Booting off your Windows XP install disk will allow you to remove the Linux partitions and create a Windows one. Just follow the prompts during the Windows installation procedure and you shouldn't have any problems.

As far as drivers for Windows XP go, once XP is installed, just start running the driver installation. I started with the Lan & Wireless drivers so I could get online faster but I don't think it matters in which order you install the drivers.

Hope that helps.

Regards Kimberly

Hi Kimberley,
I have the Acer 4315 shipped with ubuntu which was fine but I have a part tiem job from home that requires use of windows office 2007, due to the demise of my desktop I find the need to install Windows XP onto the Acer 4315 to continue my job. I am unsure of the order of doing this. Can you help please? do I install the drivers first(which I have collected onto a CD); or do I format the HDD? I read that to install WinXP on this machine I have to change BIOS to reflect IDE instead of SATA HDD? do you have any ideas? a step by step would be wonderful. Thanks

Hi,
The 4 X USB Express card has resolved a lot of my usb problems. Reports as "Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0409:005a NEC Corp. HighSpeed Hub " Ebay purchase
Express Card ExpressCard/34 Hub 4 USB Quad Port Mac/PC (290257857005) Store website " http://stores.ebay.com.au/exgrass ". 8.10 release of Ubuntu is looking good. I will not be trying to get the winmodem going with Linux and only have the internal microphone and external monitor to test. Suspend and Hibernate seem ok with the latest kernel. I am using 2GB of RAM and started install by completely removing ACER partitions. Unit is setup as dual boot XP /Ubuntu 8.10 . Ubuntu 8.10 does a better job with hardware discovery and install than XP .

I have updated the bios to the latest version V1.13.

In short if you don't need the internal modem there is no need for windows.

Cheers David

Hi,
I have worked with computer hardware/software for some years and have a Acer 4315. There appears to be a problem with the USB ports. Some devices work and others don't-both XP sp3 with current updates and drivers and various Linux distros . Still working on it.May need express card with usb ports to get around it or a list of usb devices that work. External 160GB hard drive and usb mouse and some bluetooth doogles ok. Two usb TV cards no good
Ubuntu 8.10 post beta 5 now supports wireless from install.
Official release expected late October. Do not install yet !
regards
        David
